Call center plans to fill Bangor jobs 40 vacant positions available
BANGOR, Maine — Verizon Wireless’ only call center in northern New England has 40 job openings created by a combination of recently added positions and attrition.
It’s hoping to fill them soon.
Jennifer Bouquot, human resources manager responsible for the Verizon call center on Telecom Drive near Bangor International Airport, said a growing customer base has created the need for more customer service representatives.
“Our employees take inbound calls from existing customers and answer questions about their bills, the features or benefits of their phones. They also provide some technical troubleshooting,” she explained. “The Bangor center has a high standard of quality that we’re hoping to add to.”
Verizon Wireless acquired the Bangor call center when it acquired Unicel in 2008, then trained and hired more than 100 local customer service representatives, Bouquot said. Having local employees helping local customers is important, she added.
Any new hires would spend their first 19 weeks training, but their pay ($25,000 annually) and benefits would start immediately.
Verizon has been recruiting new employees for some time and will continue to reach out to potential workers through career fairs and other venues. Including the 40 vacancies, the Bangor call center now has a total of 130 positions.
Diane Fortier Carragher, a Verizon Wireless spokeswoman, said at a time when unemployment in Maine hovers around 8 percent, it’s nice that a company can create jobs.
